Who We Are | Master Builder + Interior Architect | YOURBUILDER

Who We Are

Mission and Promise

We exist to remove the chaos and uncertainty that defines most renovation experiences. Every project is a major financial decision. We treat it that way.

Our promise. Your design vision is protected, and we do the work well. Your budget is validated by data, not optimism. Your team is permanent, named, and accountable. Your project is visible in real time, through the same portal we use ourselves.

Our focus and speciality. Auckland’s most transparent renovation builder. Heritage and modern. Renovations and extensions. From villas in Devonport to architectural builds in Remuera.

A Builder and a Designer. Founded 2008.

Hamid and Myrthe of Your Builder

YOURBUILDER was founded by Hamid Zwart and Myrthe Nitzsche. Both arrived in New Zealand from the Netherlands. Hamid had built a foundation in residential construction. Myrthe had become the first woman in the country to graduate as an Honours-qualified Interior Architect.

They settled in Auckland and started building under one principle. A renovation should be the most considered investment a homeowner makes in their largest asset. Not a leap of faith. Not a leap of faith dressed up as a fixed-price quote either.

Three decades later, the principle hasn’t changed. Hamid still personally guides every project from the first Discovery Call through to handover. Myrthe still sets the design integrity standard the team works to. The systems followed: the portal, our own dataset, the named permanent team, the in-house QSs. All built around that founding principle.

A few notes from Hamid on YOURBUILDER and what makes a renovation succeed.

What’s most important to me as the owner of this company is honesty within our team. Honesty creates the foundation for important conversations around expectations, performance, accountability, and growth. Those conversations can sometimes feel uncomfortable or vulnerable, but that’s where trust is built. It’s how strong teams are formed, and how leadership develops.

For me, performance starts with quality. That means quality workmanship, quality project management, and quality communication. Building is more than construction, it’s coordinating designers, consultants, trades, suppliers, and our builders so every stage works together smoothly.

Clear communication with our clients is vital. It allows people to make confident decisions at the right time and helps keep projects moving forward on budget and on schedule.

Problem solving is also a huge part of what we do. Every project has challenges, but I believe a good team stays calm, communicates well, and works through problems together.

I also believe enjoying the journey matters. Having a laugh onsite, encouraging each other, and keeping good energy in the team is incredibly important. It resets the mindset and helps people perform at their best.

Ultimately, we measure ourselves by delivering quality projects on time and within budget. When a team truly believes that’s possible, they commit to it, take pride in it, and strive for excellence together.

The most rewarding part for me personally is seeing happy clients at the end of a project, whether it’s a kind message, a celebration drink, or simply seeing them enjoy their new home. Those are the moments that make all the hard work worthwhile.

Why Build With Us

Pick any other Auckland builder and you’ll hear similar promises. Quality. Communication. On time. On budget. Words are cheap. Here’s what makes the difference under the hood.

Real project data, not rough numbers. 273 projects (as of 2026) logged hour by hour, accounting code by accounting code. Material prices cross-checked three times a year against Placemakers, Carters, Bunnings. Your pricing is grounded in actual costs from comparable jobs. Not pulled from memory.

Two-layer contingency. 10% inside the contract price. 5 to 25% above, calibrated to project type. Heritage villas sit at 20 to 25%, because we know what’s behind 100-year-old walls. The contingency is honest. When unknowns come in under budget, the savings stay with you.

Bank-ready pricing. Our cost-plus-margin proposals have never been rejected by a lender. You can lock in finance months earlier than with a typical builder’s rough proposal.

Pragmatist and Purist leadership. A builder’s eye and a designer’s eye on every project. Design is never sacrificed for convenience. Budget is never sacrificed for aesthetics.
