Hamid Zwart — Founder & Director

Founder and director of YOURBUILDER and YOURHOME, Hamid brings more than 30 years of construction experience — from qualifying as a carpenter to delivering architectural renovations, custom homes, and complex residential projects across New Zealand.

Raised on Waiheke Island, Hamid grew up as a free spirit with a strong connection to the outdoors, practical problem-solving, and independent thinking. In his teenage years, he moved to Matamata, where he worked in the thoroughbred horse industry, gaining experience in breeding and training some of New Zealand’s finest bloodstock. The discipline, work ethic, and attention to detail required in the racing industry would later become hallmarks of his approach to business and construction.

Hamid eventually pursued a career in construction and qualified as a carpenter. Following his qualification, he relocated to The Hague in the Netherlands, where he founded a construction company called The Dutch Kiwi. He spent more than a decade living and working in the Netherlands, building a successful business and gaining valuable international experience in construction, design, and project delivery.

It was in the Netherlands that Hamid met his life partner, Myrthe Zwart, an interior architect with a keen eye for design and detail. Their shared appreciation for craftsmanship, creativity, and building things of lasting value has shaped both their family life and many of Hamid’s professional pursuits ever since.

As the years passed, Hamid felt an increasingly strong pull to return home to New Zealand. While he had built a successful life in Europe, he wanted to reconnect with the landscapes, values, and freedom that had shaped his own upbringing. Together, Hamid and Myrthe made the decision to return to New Zealand, believing it was the ideal place to raise their daughters, Bobbie and Jools, surrounded by nature, adventure, and a lifestyle that encourages curiosity, resilience, and independence.

Today, the family enjoys a rural homesteading lifestyle north of Auckland, driven by a shared passion for off-grid living, self-reliance, and sustainable design. They are progressively developing their property with renewable energy, food production, water independence, and regenerative land management, embracing a lifestyle that reflects their values of resilience, stewardship, and connection to nature.

This shared philosophy has naturally influenced both Your Builder and Yourhome, with an increasing focus on designing homes that are not only beautiful and functional but also energy-efficient, sustainable, and capable of supporting a more independent way of living. The combination of Hamid’s practical construction expertise and Myrthe’s design background continues to shape homes that enrich the lives of the families who live in them.

Since returning to New Zealand, Hamid has developed a reputation for delivering high-quality architectural renovations, custom homes, and complex residential projects with a relentless focus on craftsmanship, communication, and client satisfaction. Today, as the founder and director of Your Builder and Yourhome, he brings more than 30 years of industry experience to every project, combining practical expertise, entrepreneurial vision, and a genuine passion for helping clients bring their dreams to life.

For Hamid, building has always been about more than constructing houses — it is about creating places where families can thrive, connect with one another, and build lives filled with purpose. That philosophy continues to guide both his businesses and the life he is creating with his own family.
